I remember back when I was first adopted into this family, I was the only iguana. I have to admit it was kind of fun being the only iguana lol. Mom and Dad liked to go on weekend trips but quickly figured out that it’s not easy to travel with an iguana. So what did mom do? She went out and bought a camping trailer!
I remember our very first trip in that camper. We went to Asheboro, NC. By that time there were already other reptiles in the house. It was me and Wilma in a cabinet that mom turned into a bed with lights and Spike the bearded dragon in his tank. Oh and the dog, we only had Max at the time.
This was our setup on that trip….
Over the years we’ve gone a number of places – Myrtle Beach, Tabor City, New Bern, Boone and Cherokee, to name a few. My travel partners have changed as well. Once we got another dog, they started staying home. On one trip Wilma tried to climb a tree in the campground, so she doesn’t get to travel much anymore. Bella, the sulcata tortoise, has been coming with me. We even tried to bring Julio to Cherokee but I don’t think he liked camping very much! The only change we’ve made in our set up is now the lights are hung from the underneath of the table. That way Bella can have some light and we have more space to stretch out.
I love going on trips. I get out of the house, away from the craziness of the rescue. And I get to meet lots of new people! For some reason, people seem surprised to see an iguana camping. I’ve compiled a few of our favorite camping pictures for you to check out…
